This Puke Kilo (Observation Journal) is formatted by malama (lunar month). Each spread contains one anahulu (lunar period) which consists of 10 pō mahina (moon phases). Between each malama there is a planning section to help gather your thoughts on what you want to kilo during the next malama. This puke features colored resource pages that show the developmental stages of pua (flowers), hua (fruits), kumu (trees), manu (birds), and pulelehua (butterfly). It also includes various types of makani (wind), ua (rain), ao (clouds), and kai (ocean conditions).

Each island has their own names for the malama, which can be found in the beginning pages of this puke.
